With almost two decades of experience in the built environment, Bryan has a multidisciplinary background that provides him with expertise on how moisture can negatively impact buildings and their occupants.
Bryan started his career in 2004 by qualifying as a Plumbing and Drainage expert and worked as a mechanical services plumber. He installed, commissioned, and audited Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for large facilities, multistory buildings, hospitals, and universities.
Since 2013, Bryan has worked as a professional indoor environmental professional. He studied Building Biology at the Australian College of Environmental Science (ACES) and obtained the only nationally recognised qualification as a Mould Testing Technician. He also has the American Council for Accredited Certification as a Certified Microbial Consultant. Additionally, Bryan studied advanced fungal spore identification through the McCrone Research Institute – Chicago, USA.
Bryan is also accredited as a Water Loss Specialist, Fire Restoration Technician, and Advanced Microbial Remediation Technician through the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).
In his pursuit of lifelong learning, Bryan also became recognised as an Occupational Hygienist by the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygiene (AIOH) and the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). Bryan is also a Fitwel certified ambassador, a program by the U.S. Centres for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention that implements design strategies coupled with performance testing to improve indoor environments.
Bryan combines his construction, plumbing and HVAC expertise with his building biology expertise to lead indoor environment investigations and determine the cause of mould and moisture-related issues, and recommend remediation measures. He has advised clients in private industry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, forensic science services, and the Queensland Government on an array of indoor environmental challenges.
Bryan was member voted in 2023 as the President for Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) Australia after serving as the Secretary and has been involved in domestic and international standards committees for environmental quality, including fungal assessments and analysis. He also participates in technical working groups that review and discuss industry standards, guidelines, and influencing trends. Furthermore, Bryan serves in the Special Technical Group of the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) for reviewing and updating the Indoor Air Quality Technical Manual DA26 and the HVAC Hygiene Manual, with the aim of increasing their usefulness and impact.
Bryan is the director in the consulting firm – Keystone Environmental, environmental laboratory analysis – Oceanic Laboratory Initiative and Professional Development platform – The Skylight Academy.
